Google beefed up its Maps offerings Thursday with more than 250,000 miles of roads updated on Street View. The updated imagery from the Street View cars also includes walk-throughs of parks, city centers and tourist attractions from around the world.
Ulf Spitzer, Street View’s program manager, said in a blog post: “We’re increasing Street View coverage in Macau, Singapore, Sweden, the U.S., Thailand, Taiwan, Italy, Great Britain, Denmark, Norway and Canada. And we’re launching special collections in South Africa, Japan, Spain, France, Brazil and Mexico, among others.”
Some of the new Street View additions Google highlighted include the Catherine Palace and Ferapontov monastery in Russia, the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall in Taiwan, Stanley Park in Vancouver and the urban jungle of Fort Canning Park in Singapore.
There are also more images from interiors of attractions, such as inside Kronborg castle and its surroundings, which is known as the setting for the Prince of Denmark to play out his personal battle in William Shakespeare’s most famous tragedy, Hamlet.
The improvements to Street View come just days after Google updated Maps for mobile browsers, enabling Street View tours from smartphone browsers. This feature was missed by iOS 6 users after Apple replaced the default Maps app with its own version, which does not feature Street View.
