Announced in October, and released to the market not long after that, the new Asus PadFone 2 arrived running Android Ice Cream Sandwich. So its current and future users should be happy to find out that, today, Asus has started pushing an Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update to the device.
According to Engadget, the update is an OTA (over the air) one, so you will have to download it directly onto the PadFone.
Although reviewers generally praise the PadFone 2, it remains a niche product, and at €799 (price including the tablet dock) it may not make a good deal – after all, cheaper alternatives do exist.
In case you don’t know yet, the phone part of the PadFone 2 features a 4.7 inch Super IPS+ HD display, LTE connectivity, dual band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, quad-core 1.5GHz Qualcomm processor, 13MP rear camera, 2.1MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, 16GB / 32GB / 64GB of internal memory, and a 2,140 mAh battery. The tablet dock comes with a 10.1 inch, 1280 x 800 pixels display, and an additional 5,000 mAh battery.
Asus already has a tablet that runs the newer 4.2 Jelly Bean: the Google Nexus 7. So it will probably not be long until the PadFone 2 gets the latest Jelly Bean version, too. We’ll let you know when it happens.
