In terms of inputting information into our mobile devices, gaming and typing are two of the activities we tend to do – to varying degrees – on a daily basis. Game developers have done a stellar job in adapting so quickly to the touch-based interface, but when it comes to accuracy – as well as full-screen gaming enjoyment – a physical controller is still the way forward. As far as the iPhone is concerned, there are plenty of third-party gaming controllers on the market, but the Ex Hybrid Controller for iPhone from iPhone5mod is unique and looks fantastic.
Everything about the Hybrid Controller works magnetically. There are no unsightly clips or brackets, and when you’re carrying your iPhone around, nobody need know you’ve a secret gaming pad and keyboard tucked away under your device. Each contraption takes the form of a magnetic sheet, and when you detach either from the back, you allow the magnets to connect, and away you go:
Out of the box, you get one aluminum joypad controller, one keyboard controller, and a charging station which is said to offer 40 hours of game / typing time. It connects with your device via Bluetooth 3.0, and also ships with a microUSB cable.
Although I have fallen in love with the way it looks and the idea itself, I would like to have seen an actual demonstration of either in action. The demo, unfortunately, is somewhat vague, and has very little substance to it – only showing the keyboards being placed in their relevant positions. The company behind the product – which costs $49.90 – should really gave given prospective buyers a demonstration of exactly how it runs when used.
